Whether you've lost your natural teeth due to tooth decay or had an accident that caused intense damage to one or more teeth, partial dentures can help restore your smile back to its former appearance. At Greg DeVor, DDS, we have a variety of options to suit your needs.

Understanding Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are replacement teeth attached to a gum-colored or pink base. Clasps are used to hold the partial in place to help make it look even more realistic and ensure it doesn't slip around. In some cases, we can use precision attachments, which are connectors with a more natural appearance. Most of our partials are a combination of metal and durable acrylic and are crafted in a way to blend in with the surrounding teeth. Not only do they help restore your power to chew correctly, but they can also sometimes alleviate any speech irregularities caused by missing teeth.

Who Needs Partial Dentures?

Missing teeth can cause a host of problems in your mouth. The remaining teeth may begin to shift, which can change the pressure points of your bite, and the soft tissues may shrink. This can change your external appearance. Dr. DeVor can analyze your existing bite and help you decide on the best solution to restore your smile. In some cases, partial dentures provide an excellent alternative to a full set of dentures when there are still plenty of structurally sound teeth.

Features And Benefits

Partial dentures are a cost-effective way to restore your natural smile. They are generally the best option for those who only have a few teeth that need replacing. Like most dental pieces, partials may take a small amount of time to get used to, but after the initial break-in period, your partial dentures will function and feel like real teeth. Unlike some other dental procedures, fitting for a partial is noninvasive, which makes it an excellent solution for most patients.

What To Expect

If you've decided that partial dentures are the best option for you, Dr. DeVor will make a series of impressions of your teeth and jaw and take measurements on how close your existing teeth are to one another. These measurements are used to create wax or plastic models and patterns of the exact shape of the partial. This procedure may take a few times to ensure a proper fit. The partial is also examined for shape and color before the final implant is made. Once the partial is complete, you'll come back to the office for a final fitting and any adjustments needed will be made to ensure comfort and function. During this final fitting, we will also go over any instructions and answer any questions you might have about your device. Keep in mind that the partial may take a few weeks to get used to. Minor irritation or soreness may occur, and you may notice small changes in the surrounding teeth and your appearance. As soon as the mouth adjusts, these issues will usually go away. If not, you may contact our office at any time with any questions and concerns.
